WINTER FILM AWARDS IS NEW YORK CITY. Like the city itself, we showcase the eclectic diversity and excitement of the independent arts world. Winter Film Awards is proudly one of the BEST REVIEWED FESTIVALS on FilmFreeway.

Emerging filmmakers with low budgets and no connections are so often ignored in favor of the standard big budget generic action films. Exciting low-budget films are created all over the world; we need the opportunity to see them!

We are an all volunteer, minority- and women-owned registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2011 in New York City by a group of filmmakers and enthusiasts. Our mission is to recognize excellence and diversity in cinema, with a special emphasis on supporting women and under-represented filmmakers. We focus on nurturing emerging filmmakers from all genres from around the world. We believe everyone deserves a fair shot at getting their voice heard and we have a rigorous blind judging process to ensure a bias-free review. Winter Film Awards is renowned for the quality and variety of the work we screen, and aim to welcome our filmmakers and attendees with an open environment where they feel inspired about their craft.

Our annual international film festival is a ten-day event including awesome film screenings, cool discussion panels, useful professional development workshops and super-fun parties at venues throughout NYC. Works of all lengths and genres are considered for Festival screening, including narrative Fiction, Documentary, Web Series, Music Videos, Animation and Horror. Each year, Winter Film Awards selects 80-90 independent films of all genres – roughly half of selections are made by women, roughly half are made by people of color. All selected films are screened at Cinema Village, New York City’s best independent cinema. The event concludes with a glittering awards ceremony and red carpet gala at one of NYC’s premier nightclubs. We award over $100,000 in cash, prizes and distribution opportunities!

Like many of the great film Festivals across the country and the world, WFA seeks to bring our audience compelling and unique content that inspires the viewers and honors the filmmakers. There are hundreds of film festivals in New York City; what makes us different is our intense focus on the variety and quality of our films and our dedication to helping new filmmakers reach what may be their first real audience.

Winter Film Awards International Film Festival is an IMDB-qualifying festival.

Our program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Winter Film Awards is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
