Star Wars The Force Awakens has landed another Best Picture nomination and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver’s Trophy Life! It looks like not even deadlines can keep The Force Awakens down. Despite announcing the list of nominees for this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards last week, The Force Awakens has been officially added as an 11th Best Picture nominee. The film was originally unable to be included since it wasn’t screened for critics until after the initial nominees were announced. After an outpouring from the group’s members though, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, who is in charge of the awards, polled their members to determine if the film should be included. Members were asked if they would have included The Force Awakens among the five they chose for Best Picture had they been able to see it and it looks like the answer was a resounding “Yes!” While the Critics’ Choice Awards includes categories like “Best Action Movie” and “Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie”, The Force Awakens will only be added to the “Best Picture” category that also includes The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room, Sicario and Spotlight. The Force Awakens was previously among the AFI Awards list of Best Movies of the Year. While unusual, this will not be the first time the Critics’ Choice Awards have added a last minute 11th Best Picture nominee. Back in 2000, Cast Away was similarly screened too late for normal consideration and was later added only to end up losing to Gladiator. While not the motivating factor, the film’s inclusion will likely help increase viewership when the awards are handed out on January 17th. The ceremony will be broadcast live on A&E, Lifetime and LMN and be hosted by Deadpool’s TJ Miller. So, what do you think of The Force Awakens becoming a last minute addition to this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards and do you think it has a chance of winning? Head down to the comments and tell us what you think and then click here to find out what we thought of it with our Spoiler Free Review.
